December Pilates Challenge for Instructors

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Folks you know me I am always harping on about Instructors needing to find time every day for their own personal practice. And at every workshop you keep telling me that you are all too busy to practice !!!

Well for the last few weeks I have gone through this very simple but challenging routine and it takes approx 20-25 minutes and its laced with all the components necessary to keep up our skills as Pilates Instructors

I thought why not share it and lets all do it from now till the 14th of Dec (so you can enjoy Christmas week !)

So from Wed 24th of Nov – why not give this little routine a go do it every 2nd day – and update us with your feed back.

  • Standing tall breathing
  • Standing Ballet swings                  50 each leg – arms at 1st
  • Roll down to plank – back to elephant back to standing 10 reps
  • Rolling press up to star -( ie press up to star on right back to press up star on left) – 1 rep -= 1 rotation of all 3 ! –  25 rotations
  • 100 extended and lowered to 45 degrees holding for 2 minutes
  • Rollups  50 reps
  • Saw 25 pairs
  • Cat to Camel 20 reps (mobility not stretch)
  • Air Chair (in a squat against the wall) build from 2 to 5 mins

Cool down supine frog for hip openers 2 – 5 mins (time depending)

If you fancy a change you can swop Double leg lower and lift for 100

and 50 Teasers for Roll up !

or do half and half 25 teasers /25 roll ups

Have a go and let me know how you are getting on

Good luck

Joyce

Congratulations Advanced / Diploma Mat Instructors

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Hi Folks

just a quick note to say a big congratulations to our new Advanced and Diploma Mat Instructors. The practical assessments on Saturday where of a very high standard.

Now you know what I am going to say next !! now that you have reached that standard DONT lose it by not practicing — in Pilates ‘we need to sweat the small stuff ‘ all those small details of hands / feet –  core connections – and we can only do that by consistent practice.

So guys please please keep the practice up and maintain that standard – dont make it just a one day exam wonder !!

Keep an eye on the post – Certs and Diplomas on the way

Again well done

Regards Joyce and all at BODYFIRM

Quote of the day

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

“I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.”

Joe said this one year before he died at the age of 87.

Well luck him he started young – for us unfortunates who do have injuries and postural issues etc – thankfully Pilates  is keeping us together !

Never to early or too late to start – so lets get out there and knock on doors and inspire the young and not so young to get involved is this timless wonderful technique

Have a fanastic day

Have you performed Pilates today

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

“The mind, when housed within a healthful body, possesses a glorious sense of power.”

-Joseph Pilates, letter to clients, 1939

Good morning every one Happy Wednesday — have you managed to move this week ? 30 minutes of Pilates every day will not make you feel better, help with the activites of daily living (ADL’s) but will give you 30minutes to your self. where your mind can unwind and for that brief moment you will feel fully connected

So come on find some space and time and just a few flowing movements to open your joints, your muscles, your heart , your lungs and your mind …  get moving

Namaste to you all today

Joyce

Humbled by your kind comments

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Hello, I just want to express how humbled my self and Emma are by your kind comments reference the recent Pilates for Breast Cancer Workshop.

As mentioned we will be in touch with any updates

Cheers Joyce

Below is a sample

Petra Barnes Many thanks to Joyce, Emma and Bernie for all the hard work you put into preparing and delivering an inspiring workshop on such an important topic. When I was working my way through the superb manual again I only realized how much material was covered, well presented and put into practice with a careful ecercise program that is so much n eeded by a vulnerable group of women. I always feel uplifted after Bodyfirm workshops and confident to pass the knowledge on to the world. Keep up the good work in the same warm caring and humourous way as always

Julien Joly Fab workshop, really excited with the new material and look forward to putting it into practice, gently and with great care. Thanks Joyce, you’re a starˇ

Mathew Stevens Excellent workshop. Very informative. Thank you both

Eileen O’sullivan My brain is buzzing, so much to take in, I want to replay the day again in my mind, so I haven’t missed anything. Feel humbled by the courage and bravery of these women, I aspire to that . The manual has already been read and will be re-read… Your ground work in this has been superb, will enable us to teach with integrity, thks Joyce & Emma

Breast Cancer Restorative exercise Workshop

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Hi Folks, just a quick note to thank you all for your attendance and feed back on

our Pilates workshop for women living and surviving breast cancer.

It was great to see old faces and welcome new ones to our studio. It was  a pity about the ash, as we missed Rachel from London, (understandably she could not risk it just in case! ) we look forward to seeing her again soon.

Your feed back was fantastic, Emma and I are both trilled you enjoyed your day, the hard work and effort was well worth it.

Remember do come back to us with any questions you may have, and remember take your time with the material, it is complex enough.

We will keep in touch with you about the future developments on the course.

Yours Joyce
