Have you performed Pilates today

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

“The mind, when housed within a healthful body, possesses a glorious sense of power.”

-Joseph Pilates, letter to clients, 1939

Good morning every one Happy Wednesday — have you managed to move this week ? 30 minutes of Pilates every day will not make you feel better, help with the activites of daily living (ADL’s) but will give you 30minutes to your self. where your mind can unwind and for that brief moment you will feel fully connected

So come on find some space and time and just a few flowing movements to open your joints, your muscles, your heart , your lungs and your mind …  get moving

Namaste to you all today

Joyce

Humbled by your kind comments

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Hello, I just want to express how humbled my self and Emma are by your kind comments reference the recent Pilates for Breast Cancer Workshop.

As mentioned we will be in touch with any updates

Cheers Joyce

Below is a sample

Petra Barnes Many thanks to Joyce, Emma and Bernie for all the hard work you put into preparing and delivering an inspiring workshop on such an important topic. When I was working my way through the superb manual again I only realized how much material was covered, well presented and put into practice with a careful ecercise program that is so much n eeded by a vulnerable group of women. I always feel uplifted after Bodyfirm workshops and confident to pass the knowledge on to the world. Keep up the good work in the same warm caring and humourous way as always

Julien Joly Fab workshop, really excited with the new material and look forward to putting it into practice, gently and with great care. Thanks Joyce, you’re a starˇ

Mathew Stevens Excellent workshop. Very informative. Thank you both

Eileen O’sullivan My brain is buzzing, so much to take in, I want to replay the day again in my mind, so I haven’t missed anything. Feel humbled by the courage and bravery of these women, I aspire to that . The manual has already been read and will be re-read… Your ground work in this has been superb, will enable us to teach with integrity, thks Joyce & Emma

BODYFIRM, Breast Cancer Workshop

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

On may 8th we are running an informative workshop for suitably qualified Pilates instructors  on Pilates based restorative movements for women recovering from breast cancer – this is not a substitute for any medical / therapy treatment -

our mission with this workshop is to work with the  growing support for research that suggests moderate exercise can aid post-operative breast cancer recovery and improve quality of life for women who been through a breast cancer operation.
In the field of health and fitness, as its main focus is to ‘building body core strength and stability’, Pilates is acknowledged as an accessible form of training where exertion is considered to be relatively moderate.
Employing Pilates to aid recuperation is not a new idea. Specific Pilates programs have been successfully employed to aid recovery and recuperation in many health conditions.
Progressive Pilates for Breast Cancer Rehabilitation is devised on the central Pilates principle of building body core strength and stability.
This advanced Pilates program is sensitively designed to assist breast cancer survivors with a comfortable recovery and resumption of a more active lifestyle.
The holistic program is designed to aid the restoration of harmony, strength and mobility as well as range of motion not only in the shoulder girdle but in the entire body. It also addresses muscular imbalances due to specific surgeries.
Our workshop will provide the instructor with the knowledge and skills to assist women who are in post-operative recovery and help them in rebuilding their strength, self-esteem and quality of life

Instructors  join us on May 8th at our workshop it promises to be an inspirational day.

Pilates the trinity of movement

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Pilates is the trinity of movement  body, mind and spirit

In our busy lives  and indeed the older we are getting while we still need to move for health we sometimes cannot face the hours of exercise we where once capable of.

Isn’t great that there is such a wonderful system like Pilates – this system with as little as 30 minutes per day will have such a positive effect on your posture, well-being and ease of movement.

So come on either in a class, personal training or indeed solo at home – get into Pilates – its never too late ! and I should know I am now a proud member of the over 50′s club !

Folks below is another inspirational quotation from the great man himself

have a great week everybody

Joyce

“Contrology (Pilates) is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit. Through Contrology you first purposefully acquire complete control of your own body and then through proper repetition of its exercises you gradually and progressively acquire that natural rhythm and coordination associated with all your subconscious activities. “

Pilates quote of the week 1st April 2010

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

This is the equivalent of an “internal shower”.

“This is the equivalent of an “internal shower”. As the spring freshness born of the heavy rains and vast masses of melting snows on mountains in the hinterlands cause rivers to swell and rush turbulently onward to the sea, so too will your blood flow with renewed vigor as the direct result of your faithfully performing the Contrology (Pilates) exercises.” Joseph H. Pilates

Come on folks join a Pilates class and get the blood flowing, improve circulation, improve flexibility and most importantly improve your quality of living !!!

Give us a call or find your local Pilates Instructor and get moving

Pilates quote of the week 23rd March 2010

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

A few well-designed movements….

Health and wellness from controled movements

Health and wellness from controled movements

A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion.
